THE HISTORY OF HOT IRON

The Hot Iron, Inc. story began on April 1, 1990, when Gary Garland the company and the rest, as they say, is history.

Born from two aspirations, ownership and quality of service, Hot Iron set out with a simple plan — install underground utilities for satisfied clients in a timely manner and within budget.

It only made sense that the man who spent years working construction from an early age would still be remembered today as being a strong leader who was born with the knowledge of how to move dirt quickly all while installing infrastructures for the present and future people of communities like Gillette, Buffalo, and Sheridan.

Gary learned that sometimes you need to create your own opportunities. So, at the age of 39, Gary started planning and took out a loan to buy a Rago trench roller and a dump truck, rented a 680 Case backhoe, and through his entrepreneurial spirit, started one of his greatest joys, Hot Iron, Inc.

Hot Iron landed its first project in April of 1990. Its introduction into being its own business was installing culverts on Hwy 14 near Ucross, Wyoming. Shortly after, Hot Iron hired its future owners Bryan Garland and Rafael Del Toro.

Since then, Hot Iron has helped build communities throughout the Northern Wyoming region. It has continued its commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the business world, has weathered the economic ups and downs, all with steady leadership. Hot Iron's legacy can still be found in the spirit of growth and commitment to the core values.

HOT IRON THROUGH THE YEARS

1990's
A Decade of Identity

In the early years of Hot Iron, workweeks consisted of 80+ hours and good old-fashioned hard work. The business was made through phone calls, handshakes, and trust. What followed were relationships built on the reputation of Hot Iron’s unfailing commitment to its clients. One could find Hot Iron from the base of the Big Horn Mountains to the eastern county line of Campbell County. The locals quickly recognized this new organization called Hot Iron, Inc.

2000's
A Decade of Strategy

It was no surprise that the population of communities like Gillette, Wyoming was growing leaps and bounds during this decade. Schools were being built, roads were expanding, and there was land being developed at lightning speeds in order to house an 11% increase in population in Campbell County despite the nation being in a recession. There was no shortage of work. Hot Iron’s success during this time was beyond what Gary could have imagined. In response to the organization’s growth, Gary expanded Hot Iron’s fleet of equipment and the number of employees in the field and office.

2010's
A Decade of Expansion

More than 20 years after its inception, Gary Garland began to slowly transition out of the daily business operations of the organization. He weathered many ups and downs during this time including the rise and the fall of a “blue sky” business partnership. With the guidance of Gary and the leadership of Bryan and Rafael, Hot Iron rose to the challenges and continued with the success it was always known for. The 2010s introduced Hot Iron to its trio of business partners — Gary Garland, Bryan Garland, and Rafael Del Toro.

2020's
A Decade of New Changes

On January 1, 2020, Hot Iron underwent a makeover, revealing a new logo. The new logo was evidence of the company’s continued dedication to Hot Iron’s future by newly acquired business owners Bryan Garland and Rafael Del Toro. Bryan and Rafael succeeded Gary as owners of Hot Iron, Inc following Gary’s retirement, with the knowledge and adaptability to meet the growing demands of comprehensive construction services in the northeastern region of Wyoming. The company’s unfaltering commitment to the core values and steady employees allowed Hot Iron to persevere.
